We’ve still got spaces available on some of this s We’ve still got spaces available on some of this summer’s courses, so whether you’d like to visit for a couple of hours to tour around the herb garden, or you want to spend two days looking at the Ayurvedic approach to the treatment of children - we’ve got something for you!

The website link in bio will take you to our courses page, where on can see more information on each course. You can book directly online, or if you prefer contact us by email admin@annemcintyre.com, and we can invoice you.

We offer herbal teas on every course and a delicious plant based lunch for day courses. There’s also the opportunity to browse the books and herbs on sale in the dispensary, as well as the possibility of taking home some herb seedlings for your own garden 🌱

See you soon!
What a wonderful week in the garden! We started w What a wonderful week in the garden!

We started with a fabulous group of garden volunteers who worked through the rain on Monday, then two days of the first workshop for a this year’s How to be a Home Herbalist course using the herb garden as our classroom, and now gorgeous weather forecast for the Bank holiday 🌞

Hopefully you have also had an opportunity to get outside and enjoy nature this week. Wishing you a great weekend A x
My favourite flower is the rose and I am so happy My favourite flower is the rose and I am so happy that all the signs are that we are going to have a blockbuster year for them!

There are buds everywhere on every type of rose from shrubs to climbers. I can’t wait until the garden is filled with their fragrance - and we can make more delicious rose glycerite, dry rose petals for tea and distill rose water. Simply heavenly!!!
Come and join me for a day of discovery as you unc Come and join me for a day of discovery as you uncover the untapped healing potential of your own garden. You don’t need to start a medicinal garden from scratch – your garden is already filled with plants and flowers that can be used to support your health. To find out how to open up your garden pharmacy, join us here at Artemis House to investigate the healing uses of commonly grown garden plants.
How lucky am I that I wake up to this beautiful ga How lucky am I that I wake up to this beautiful garden each morning? This was my view earlier today - I can’t wait until next month when the roses are in full bloom. 🌹🌸🌺🌼
Mondays are for gardening 🌿 Today we spent the mo Mondays are for gardening 🌿

Today we spent the morning working on the paths and beds around paradise. The ox eye daisies and burdock had made themselves very much at home in the gravel there and while they are beautiful plants they are perhaps not ideal underfoot for visitors later in the year!

The weather gave us the full English experience too… a misty start, followed by glorious sunshine and then rain really coming down by lunchtime ☔️🌤️

A very grounding, if slightly damp, way to begin the week!
The yeah, whatever herb. I’ve been going through The yeah, whatever herb.

I’ve been going through the handouts for upcoming courses and found these gorgeous photos of California poppies, Eschscholzia californica, taken in my garden in peak summer. I’ve included California poppy in a number of my books (here the photos are from Drugs in Pots and Dispensing with Tradition) as it is one of my absolute favourite herbs and it is equally loved by my patients too!

In Western herbal medicine, California poppy is such a fabulous ‘feel good’ remedy. I often call it the “yeah… whatever” herb because of the way it helps to lift the spirits, soften stress, tension and overwhelm, bringing a sense of calm, ease and emotional lightness. It’s traditionally used to support sleep, reduce anxiety, relieve headaches and migraines, as well as to ease pain, palpitations, tachycardia and hypertension.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s especially helpful for cooling excess pitta in the mind (sadhaka pitta) - that fiery, overthinking, perfectionist energy that can show up as irritability, low self esteem, over ambition, insomnia, overanalysing, headaches or OCD. Reducing pitta in the rasa and rakta dhatus, it can relieve palpitations, hypertension and pain from inflammation.

And on top of all of that, I think that even just looking at these gorgeous flowers brings joy to my day! 💛

If you’d like to find out more about this and other helpful herbs that you can grow in your garden, why not check out the courses link in my bio ⬆️
I moved here to Artemis House over twenty years ag I moved here to Artemis House over twenty years ago with my three daughters and named the house after Artemis the moon goddess - the protector of women who also oversees nature and fertility.

I wanted the garden to illustrate the benefits of herbs through our lives, and that is why I decided to lay it out as a spiral representing a journey through a woman’s life expressed through herbs. As you move through the seasons of womanhood, you find herbs growing at each stage to support you at that time.

We collect as many plants as we can from the garden. These are the tools of our trade. We need to have the best possible herbs and growing our own is our best guarantee of quality. I love that, regardless of your access to a garden, everyone can at least grow pots of herbs like mint, basil or coriander on their window ledge to start on their herbal journey.

One of the things I love to do is to be a conveyor of knowledge - even though I sometimes feel that even after over 45 years in practice, I still only know the tip of the iceberg! Understanding the world of nature and what it is to be human is a feat few have truly achieved and everyone has their own take on it. We’re all exploring and through the courses at Artemis House I hope that our explorations and discussions have been helpful starts or continuations for students on their journey into the wonderful world of herbs and healing!
