Look what we found - eyebright (Euphrasia officina Look what we found - eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis)!

As the name suggests this gorgeous little herb can be taken internally to treat a host of eye problems, and you can also use a compress of an infusion on your eyes, or put 1 ml of the tincture in a glass of rose water as an eyewash.

It’s also great for colds, sinusitis, hay fever and improving liver function, and it lifts the spirits, clears brain fog and improves mental clarity!

It is such a privilege to be able to manage the entire process from sowing the seeds to growing the plant, to harvesting at the optimal time, then preparing it as medicine and feeling certain of the quality of the tools of my trade when it comes to dispensing to my patients.

Some beautiful California poppy (Eschscholzia Cali Some beautiful California poppy (Eschscholzia California) growing in my garden. I love this herb and my patients love it too!

In the West this is used as a fabulous ‘feel good’ remedy for the blues, insomnia, anxiety, stress and tension . It helps you to be happy and carefree.,, I call it the ‘yeah whatever’ herb! It can be very helpful in stress-related problems and pain including abdominal pain, headaches and migraines, arthritis, sciatica, palpitations, tachycardia and hypertension.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, it cools the heat of excess pitta in the mind (excess sadhaka pitta) which can cause irritability, low self esteem, over ambition, headaches, insomnia, overanalysing and OCD. Reducing pitta in the rasa and rakta dhatus, it can be used to ease palpitations, hypertension and pain from inflammation.

All these uses, and it looks beautiful in the garden too! It brings joy just being with this amazing flower!

California poppy may interact with a number of types of drugs, such as tranquillisers and CNS depressants, so please check before use.
