We all know that mental and emotional health are as important as physical health - but how do we keep our resilience in times of upheaval, or in the face of frustrations of situations out of our control?

On 15th May we are running a workshop at Artemis House to help you with exactly this, an introduction to managing mental and emotional imbalances through medicinal herbs, adaptations to diet and lifestyle changes.

If you are interested in how your gut health can impact how you feel, and you like the idea of including more herbs in your diet, you may like to know that on 14th May we are holding another Herbs for Gut Health workshop here at Artemis House when we will be looking at factors affecting our digestive health and what steps we can take to improve it, focussing particularly on the role medicinal herbs can play in supporting gut health. We will talk about simple diet and lifestyle changes, common dietary requirements and how to embrace diversity in your diet. We will discuss – and eat! – recipes made with well known culinary herbs and spices which will enhance and support your digestion.

We will also take a look at theories around gut bacteria and the roles of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics in maintaining good gut flora diversity, including what part fermented foods play in our diet and how to include them in a healthy lifestyle.

Every day course and workshop here at Artemis House includes a seasonal plant based lunch - this spread was part of the lunch for the Ayurvedic Apprenticeship students. Hopefully you can see that including herbs in your diet every day not only benefits your gut and overall health, but it’s delicious too!

The dishes shown here include:
- roast beetroot, coconut yoghurt and fresh dill
- homemade hummus with tahini, lemon, garlic and cumin
- wild garlic, parsley, coriander, basil and walnut pesto
- grated ginger, lemon and lime
- chopped coriander leaf
- buckwheat banana muffins with pecans, blueberries and cardamom

- not seen are coconut and red lentil dal with garam masala, turmeric and cardamom, and greens in garlic oil

It’s been wonderful to welcome students back to

It’s been wonderful to welcome students back to Artemis House over the last few days!

The teaching space is looking beautiful and so inviting whatever the weather, and having had a little sun the herb garden is growing at an astonishing rate!

This week we are welcoming the second year Ayurvedic Apprentices for their first workshop of the year, then at the end of the month we have our first year Ayurvedic Apprenticeship Foundation students visiting us for the first time. In May we will see How to be a Home Herbaliat students for their first practical sessions, as well as the first of the popular one day courses with Herbs to support Gut Health and Herbs for Mental and Emotional Resilience.

You may have noticed how many photos there are of me sniffing plants on my grid - it’s not a coincidence, it’s actually a key way I engage with the healing plants I meet! I strongly believe that to be able to use herbs to their fullest extent we need to get to know them through all of our senses, preferably meeting them as a whole plant where they grow rather than only experiencing them as a dry powder and an accompanying list of chemical compounds.
